Australia Import Duty, GST and Landed Cost Calculator

Estimate Australian customs duty, GST, import charges and landed cost using the current tariff classification. General Schedule 3 rates and supported preference paths are kept separate so rules-of-origin eligibility is never assumed from the exporter country alone.

What this Australia estimate includes

ImportSmart separates the parts of the import calculation so you can inspect the rate, tax base, government fees and other shipment costs instead of receiving one unexplained total.

  • A supported general Schedule 3 duty rate for the selected classification.
  • A supported preference path only after the user confirms the required origin treatment.
  • GST at the current standard supported path of 10% on the Value of Taxable Importation.
  • Import Processing Charge and biosecurity charge as separate entered or calculated components.
  • Freight, insurance, brokerage inputs and total landed cost in AUD.

The result is a planning estimate, not a binding customs decision, classification ruling or guarantee of the amount assessed at import.

What you need before calculating

Commodity code: Use an 8-digit Australian tariff classification or the exact 10-digit classification plus statistical code when statistical rows differ.

  1. An 8-digit classification or exact 10-digit code when statistical rows differ.
  2. Country of origin and evidence for any selected free-trade treatment.
  3. Goods value, freight, insurance and an exchange rate into AUD.
  4. Applicable import processing, biosecurity and brokerage amounts.

Start in Simple mode. Open Advanced only for a verified exception, preference, customs-valuation choice or manual tariff rate.

How the automatic tariff check works

The general rate is the baseline. The calculator resolves a supported current Schedule 3 rate before applying GST and other entered costs.

Preference is not inferred. Export from an FTA country does not by itself prove origin qualification; the preferential option requires separate verification.

GST uses the import base. Duty, transport-related values and applicable charges remain visible instead of being compressed into one unexplained percentage.

Tariff data statusImportSmart checks current Australian Border Force tariff material and retains a verified Federal Register fallback for supported Schedule 3 cases.

When ImportSmart stops instead of guessing

A visible stop is safer than a plausible-looking but unsupported duty figure. The automatic path asks for review when:

  • An 8-digit code has statistical rows with different rates.
  • The rate is specific, compound, staged or otherwise ambiguous.
  • A preferential treatment is selected without the necessary rules-of-origin confirmation.
  • WET, LCT, dumping, countervailing measures or a tariff concession needs a separate assessment.

Official tariff source

ImportSmart identifies the source used by the supported calculation path. For classification and final entry decisions, check Australian Border Force — Current Working Tariff directly.

Tariffs and trade measures can change. Confirm the commodity code, effective date, origin and any special treatment before relying on an estimate for a customs declaration or commercial commitment.

Australia calculator questions

Can I assume an FTA rate from the country of export?

No. Preferential duty depends on the applicable agreement and its rules of origin. ImportSmart keeps that choice explicit rather than granting a free rate from the country name alone.

How is Australian GST represented?

The supported standard path applies 10% GST to the Value of Taxable Importation. Duty and relevant transport or insurance components remain visible in the calculation.

Are WET, LCT and dumping measures included automatically?

They are not guessed. If a shipment may attract those product-specific taxes or trade measures, review the official sources and add the confirmed amounts as appropriate.
